Prologue
We hear a lot of rhetoric that “Ron DeSantis has not declared” that “we don’t know he is running”, yet we find him far outside of Florida doing Media Operations geared to helpng his falling poll numbers. This is not the behavior of a Governor, this is the behavior of a candidate.
Break Out Your Secret Decoder Ring: DeSantis Announcement Next Week?
The invitation for Ron DeSantis’ de facto presidential campaign kickoff Wednesday in Miami isn’t fancy. And it’s all hush hush.
It’s either word of mouth or a text message. Just don't talk about it if you’ve got it.
The location is pure swank: The Four Seasons Hotel on Brickell Avenue. Suggested attire: “dressy casual resort wear,” according to an invite for the event shared with The Messenger — but only on condition of anonymity.
The schedule: registration at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Who is Flying DeSantis Around?
Ahead of an expected White House bid, Mr. DeSantis has relied heavily on his rich allies to ferry him around the country to test his message and raise his profile. Many of these donors are familiar boosters from Florida, some with business interests before the state, according to a New York Times review of Mr. DeSantis’s travel. Others have been shielded from the public by a new nonprofit, The Times found, in an arrangement that drew criticism from ethics experts.
Mr. DeSantis, who is expected to formally announce his candidacy next week, is hardly the first politician to take advantage of the speed and comfort of a Gulfstream jet. Candidates and officeholders in both parties have long accepted the benefits of a donor’s plane as worth the political risk of appearing indebted to special interests or out of touch with voters.
But ethics experts said the travel — and specifically the role of the nonprofit — shows how Mr. DeSantis’s prolonged candidate-in-limbo status has allowed him to work around rules intended to keep donors from wielding secret influence. As a declared federal candidate, he would face far stricter requirements for accepting and reporting such donations.

The Crime?
Super PACs and other independent groups may discuss certain subjects with campaigns, but they may not work together on the Super PAC’s spending and strategy. Thus, for example, if a campaign asks a Super PAC to run an ad, or the campaign shares nonpublic information with a Super PAC that the PAC uses to develop or determine the timing of an ad, the cost of the ad is considered an in-kind contribution to the campaign. Because corporations (and incorporated nonprofits) are prohibited from making any contribution in federal elections, and individuals are subject to a $2700 per election limit, a coordinated expenditure can be, and usually is, an illegal in-kind contribution.

Now Why Would DeSantis Want To Stop Trump Endorsements?
Since Donalds came out for Trump, DeSantis' team has called at least six members of Florida’s congressional delegation, asking that they hold off on making any endorsements in the near future. They are: Reps. Aaron Bean, Vern Buchanan, Kat Cammack, Mario Diaz-Balart, Laurel Lee and Greg Steube.
Ryan Tyson, a longtime GOP pollster and mainstay in DeSantis’ political orbit, has led the effort. Tyson has initiated the calls, reaching out to schedule later calls between the members of Congress and DeSantis himself.

Waiting Till The Day Before Trump Gets Indicted
The new law will allow anyone who can legally own a gun in Florida to carry one without a permit. It means training and a background check will not be required to carry concealed guns in public. It takes effect July 1.
While a background check and three-day waiting period will still be required to purchase a gun from a licensed dealer, they are not required for private transactions or exchanges of weapons.

Book Tour or Illegal Campaigning?
The Washington Post reported on Thursday that DeSantis has said privately he intends to run, according to two people familiar with his comments. The Never Back Down Super Pac is likely to serve as an approved outside spending vehicle for a DeSantis run, according to three people familiar with the planning. DeSantis has said there’s no caveat to whether he’ll run — he’s in. His announcement is expected to come in early summer.

Trying to Outflank Trump
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is scheduled to speak in Iowa next week, where 2024 presidential candidates Donald Trump and Nikki Haley are also slated to speak this month.
DeSantis scheduling a visit to a key Republican battleground state has heightened Desantis 2024 campaign rumors. The Florida governor is slated to promote his new book, “The Courage to be Free,” at events scheduled to take place in the state’s capital, Des Moines, on March 10, the Associated Pressreported.
Just three days later, on March 13, former President Donald Trump will be speaking in Des Moines about his education policy.

His travel itinerary will feature a trip to Iowa in March, with stops in Davenport and Des Moines, followed by a visit to Nevada and then Manchester, New Hampshire, while his team also mulls a possible trip to South Carolina as well, the New York Times reported.
Top of the agenda for DeSantis will likely be his new book, The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival, which hit bookshelves Tuesday…

As we have chronicled since July, the decision for Ron DeSantis to enter the 2024 contest was made before the spring of 2022, everything thereafter has been a grand game of position and pretense.
By design, Governor Ron DeSantis will almost certainly be the last candidate to enter the 2024 race, sometime late summer. The entry will depend on their success in keeping him in the spotlight and headlines without ‘officially’ looking like they are trying to keep him in the spotlight and headlines. Fox News will play a key role in keeping DeSantis spotlighted.
Everything is being carefully managed; however, when you know the script, and know where the tripwires are located, it’s very easy to see it playing out.

Over $200 Million Dollars Later: Nov 3, 2022
Between his direct campaign and the aligned political committee, donors big and small have given DeSantis more than $200 million for his reelection bid, a staggering sum that is likely the most raised by any gubernatorial candidate in American history.
